How might educational leaders use blogs?

I believe that blogging can be an effective communication tool for educational leaders.  According to The Principal as Action Research, "Thinking is a challenge for any researcher...Weblogs are another excellent way principal-researchers can capture their thinking. " (Dana, 2009)  One of the major problems in schools today is not only how to get the students thinking but how to evaluate it.  Blogging also is a way that you can voice your thinking based on facts you have researched along with receiving valuable feedback on your research.  Dana states, "The comment feature of blogs allows principal-researchers to receive feedback from anyone in the world..." (Dana, 2009)  With blogs, I believe the the Principal-researcher will gain more knowledge and have a great way to journal their findings.

  1. Casey,
I completely agree. I am even thinking about using a blog to collect information from my students in a classroom setting. I think it would be another way to assess the students to determine if they understood the material or the concept studied in class.

  2. Casey,
I know that prior to this class that I've heard of and even read some blogs, but for some reason I had never thought about how valuable they could be in education. I too am excited about the possibility of getting my team or even my students on board with following a blog; and maybe even parents...wouldn't that be a great way to share some thoughts about class?
