This week started out very confusing to me. I wasn't sure if I get my information from the:
1. Google Site
2. Blackboard
3. Assignment template
4. Assignment overview
5. Rubric
etc...
I think you get the point. I am sure you might have felt the same way. The good news is, Dr. Abshire put it best when she said, "you will be graded by the rubric. Your IA's will follow the rubric when grading." This was like music to my ears. I had an answer!! I will follow the rubric. I will use the other sources as guides but the be all end all is the rubric!! Feeling much better.
As for what I learned this week, I think I am excited. I noticed through this action research study that there are many areas that I would like to investigate. I want to know the answer to most of the topics introduced in the book. IT also got me to look beyond the books and research some education research plans. Wow is there a ton out there!! I even found one that I will be able to use as a resource for my action plan. This week took some time to complete but I feel I am better prepared for my action research plan!! I look forward to your comments!!

I started out a little confused as well. I started last week by looking at the rubric, and decided after a bit stressful start to this week, that I was going to go by what the rubric stated. Yes, it is a much better feeling now. :-)
ReplyDeleteThere is so much to learn, and action research is a bit overwhelming I we let it be that way. I have researched as well about action projects, you are right there are so many out there. I am so glad the internet has a vast library of information. It wasn't like this when I got my bachelors, I still had to go to the library and read journal articles, and use a card catalog. My how things have changed in 16 years. Good luck and have a great afternoon!
I had some sort of grasp of the whole action research plan, but after completed the reading and videos for week 2 I also feel like I am prepared to write my research plan. My plan will be a little clearer after I hopefully get to meet with my site supervisor next week when he gets back in town. Also I found some of examples in the nine areas to very beneficial to my ARP. Casey I am also glad the rubric has bee brought up, because I have just been trying to go by the rubric on order to get all my assignments complete.
ReplyDeleteThe rubric as guide was great information for sure! There is literally no limit to the capabilities for use of action research in education settings. As an elective teacher I am excited to research areas that apply to me, since the education world doesn't like to value what we teach at times. There are so many great opportunities to study with inquiry studies. I agree with you that each thing sounds interesting and worth my time. Hope you have a great week, Casey!
ReplyDeleteCasey,
ReplyDeleteAs you know from Facebook we have been on the same moon orbiting around the planet we call Research for a while now. I am glad we got a lot of that cleared up in our meeting yesterday with Dr. Abshire.
I think it is great that you are excited because excitement means that it seems like less work. I too am excited and have been looking up other action research plans. I have noticed some slight variance from state to state so I do find that intriguing as well. Good luck with your plan!
I find it harder to narrow down a topic, than to come up with one. If you keep your eyes open, you can spot countless areas that could use some action research. The question then becomes one of which would be of the most value to the campus/district at this time. One topic may be a good idea, but is it the right idea at this time. I keep a running list of research ideas that I can always come back to, or discard depending on where I am at and where my campus is at when moving into another research project.
ReplyDeleteCasey...Thanks for the heads up on the rubric. I've felt the same way...not really sure where to look for the final answer on directions. I'm always afraid I'm going to miss something.
ReplyDeleteI'll be following your blog...hope you might consider following mine as well.
Thanks...and good luck on your journey!
I think everyone was confused this week. I thought that it would be better after I got grades for last week, but I sat and worried as I did the homework for this week wondering if I was doing things the right way. Glad that you found material to support your research project. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThis week I was on vacation and unable to connect to the web conference. I tried to view it several times but it just would not work. I'm so glad I read your post, because now I'm sticking to the rubric! I hope you can narrow all your ideas down to one that you are especially passionate about right now.
ReplyDeleteI agree, lots of different places to look......
ReplyDeleteThis week did offer more opportunities to look into different areas of action research. Don't know if you looked at the LU library, but it also has a lot of good information.
